IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING BDSRA FAMILY GRANTS
Dear Batten Community,
In 2023 we awarded $71,800 for families through our grant programs, including the Fore The Journey funding provided by the ForeBatten Foundation. This year, to date, we have awarded more than $24,600. Unfortunately, we are entering the 4th quarter with zero funds available for these programs. As a result, we must pause processing new grant applications.
We are grateful for every donation. However, this shortfall is the result of too few donations to our greatest needs funds. This type of donation empowers us to meet the greatest needs in our community, and the grants are a primary vehicle to do this.
Shortly we will launch our annual giving campaign, but you don’t have to wait to receive materials in the mail. We urge you to go to our website and donate to the greatest needs fund today. This will help us fund these very important grants for our families in need.

Family Grants – Financial Help for Batten Families
BDSRA has multiple grants available to assist Batten Families. For any questions on family grants, please send an email to info@bdsrafoundation.org
Batten Family Help Grant
The BDSRA understands that families in our community caring for people with Batten disease are often faced with financial challenges that further interfere with their well-being. To help, BDSRA offers the Batten Family Help Grant to be used in a variety of ways.
Some examples are emergency travel, excessive bills, unexpected cost, safety hazards, etc.
BDSRA Equipment Exchange Grant
The Equipment Exchange Grant is an opportunity for individuals and families to gift unused equipment to other families who are in need. All items exchanged through this program are required to be free of charge, and BDSRA will cover shipping costs to help facilitate the exchange without additional burden. BDSRA hosts an annual swap party on Earth Day each year on our Facebook to help facilitate the exchange.
Fore The Journey Grant
The journey through Batten disease can be challenging and families cherish moments that bring happiness to their children. A visit to a zoo, sports lessons, or a swim in a community pool can provide much-needed smiles. The Fore The Journey Grant is a joint collaboration with the BDSRA and the ForeBatten Foundation. This unique grant offers Batten families experiences, memberships, and gifts to provide those happy moments. Your request can be as individual as you!
